Option One
Enjoy a half day Seat-In-Coach Bangkok City and Temples tour.
A visit to Bangkok is not complete without a tour of its temples, and this excursion takes in three of the most impressive in the city. Known as The Wat Suthat, this is one of the most important and one of the oldest temples of the Rattanakosin era in Bangkok. It is one of the six temples in Thailand of the highest grade of the first class Royal temples. When Rama I became the first ruler of the Rattanakosin Kingdom in 1782, he ordered the construction of the Wat Suthat. Construction lasted for decades, and the Wat was finally finished during the reign of King Rama III in 1847. The temple complex which is officially named Wat Suthat Thepphawararam is one of the largest in Bangkok covering 10 acres. The Wat Suthat is also known as the temple of the giant swing, after the huge red swing in front of it called Sao Ching Chaa. The teak wood 20 meter high swing that was built at the end of the 18th century was used in annual Brahmanic ceremonies. Groups of young men competed with each other trying to swing high enough to grab with their teeth a bag of gold coins that was attached to a pole. Some men would swing well over 20 meters in the air. After a number of fatal accidents, the swing ceremony was cancelled in the 1930’s. Equally spectacular is Wat Po, home to a colossal reclining Buddha and a traditional massage school. The temple garden contains a Bodhi tree grown from a cutting of an original tree in India under which the Lord Buddha sat while awaiting enlightenment. Welcome to the original Thai medical and massage school. Here the place where the heritage of Thais’ wisdom in traditional medicine have been instructed and developed through a long and continually practical implementation. You will experience 20 minutes of Thai Massage.
Option Two
This morning, enjoy a half day Seat-In-Coach tour of Tastes of Bangkok Transport.
This big city excursion takes in some of Bangkok’s most iconic sites and involves travel around the metropolis by many different forms of public transport, thereby offering a view of the capital from a local’s perspective. Even better, a guide will be on hand to provide an insider’s knowledge, plus valuable tips to get the most out of your stay in the capital. Bangkok is infamous for its traffic jams, but we will use a variety of transportation to get around quickly, such as tuk-tuks, the sky train, river boats and for the truly adventurous – a speedy klong ferry. Bangkok’s exciting and varied public transport system can be very confusing for a first time visitor, but with our knowledgeable guide, you will see the city’s most interesting areas far more quickly than being stuck in a car in rush hour traffic, which in Bangkok actually means rush hours traffic. The exact route of the excursion depends on the location of your hotel and our guide will discuss the best options for your tour. However, we will ensure that you get to see some beautiful temples, interesting bustling street markets, as well as other local points of interest that only a Bangkokian will know about.
This afternoon, 2 hours of Thai Traditional Massage has been scheduled for you, at the Health Land Sathorn Spa. Originated in Buddhist monasteries as a form of preventative health care for monks, the Thai massage combines acupressure, assisted yoga postures, and Ayurveda, to relieve stress and protect against stress-related health issues. It is also said to boost energy and improve range of motion and flexibility.
NOTE: you will need to make your own way to/from the spa. Please make an appointment for your spa at least 24 hours prior to your preferred time.
